A Note From Alfonso:

“Growing up in Nicaragua I remember listening to the Latin orchestras that would play at parties near my home.

The rhythm of the congas captivated me and I began to develop a deep interest in Salsa music at a young age.

My father noticed my growing interest in this exciting style of music and gave me my first record by Sonora Matancera.

That record introduced me to what would later become my passion and in my opinion, Salsa is the main ingredient to feeling good.

It has given me confidence and strength; it got me in shape and has helped me to stay healthy and thats why I want to share my passion and experience with all my Salsa dancing students in Vancouver.

During my Salsa dancing classes in Vancouver you can expect to have fun and it’s very important to me that everyone has fun because thats what Salsa dancing is all about.

All of my combinations are broken down in a step-by-step fashion so you can learn them with ease.

If you are more experienced then I will help you to improve your technique and form through more challenging and complex combinations that will turn you into a truly skilled Salsa dancer.

By learning Salsa dancing in Vancouver with me you’ll receive all the necessary tools to become the Salsa dancer of your dreams!

Once you have mastered the basics, you will then be ready to learn a variety of combinations and will understand how to execute them with precision.

Most importantly, it’s not just about copying dance steps during your Salsa dancing classes in Vancouver, I will teach you to move like a true Salsa dancer.”

– Alfonso Caldera

Jessica Shatzko has been dancing since the age of three. Her passion and natural ability in dance began at a very young age. She trained in various styles such as: Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap and Contemporary. Shatzko represented Canada two years in a row at the World Tap Championships in Riesa Germany that wowed the crowd.

However, not until her later years she discovered the dance that would change her life, Salsa. Wanting the best training in the Lower Mainland, she discovered Bravo Dance Company. Training directly under artistic director Alfonso Caldera, she was invited to join his professional team.
Not long after the opportunity arose, Shatzko became Alfonso Caldera’s official dance partner. After competing and successfully winning the World Salsa Championship in the professional division, she represents Vancouver Canada at many local and international events including World Latin Dance Cups and Congresses around the world.

Since that time Shatzko has also appeared in music videos with Michael Buble, Emily Harder, dancing for Jose Alberto and on the TV series, Smallville. Filled with fire and a love for dance, Shatzko was hired as a dancer on the Disney Cruise Lines, trained from top choreographers based out of Toronto. Receiving many awards and scholarships throughout her dancing career, as a choreographer she has landed many overall high scores as well as choreography awards. Shatzko continues to fullfill her dreams by choreographing, teaching, performing internationally and giving workshops at a number of top studios.

  • Alfonso is a truly inspiring and dedicated instructor. His style of teaching is second to none, breaking down every step, every detail, and adding his “Bravo” styling. Taking his classes, you will be dancing with moves like that which you can only see in dancing competitions and in the movies. His passion and motivation for dancing is invigorating, and is transferred over to his compassion and care for his students, encouraging them to take the next step and be even better than they are. Thanks Alfonso!

  • Alfonso is amazing. If you want to become a better dancer and have fun, you need to learn from Alfonso. I have learnt so much in his class. His salsa is artistic, stylish and challenging – especially his foot work. He motivates you to be your best and he brings out the best in you. His class is amazing and it’s also a great workout. You just want more. Keep up the great work Alfonso. You have a student for life.

    -Thai Lam

  • I have been attending Alfonso’s classes for a while now. I am a big fan of his teaching as he is the most technical instructor in town. His students always stand out among others on the dance floor. You will learn how to be elegant and sharp on when dancing. Thank you for the opportunity Alfonso! Keep up the awesome work.

    -Sarah N

  • He made me become comfortable as a salsa dancer in only 3 months! “Alfonso is the type of salsa dancer I would like to become. He dances like a man, strong and has a very fresh, unique and excellent style. As my teacher he made me become comfortable as a salsa dancer in only 3 months of taking classes. Thanks, Alfonso.

    -Jojo Zonlina

  • His skill, dedication & utmost belief in his work enable students to fully enjoy the Latin dance experience.

    -Robert Polischuck

  • He puts together amazing salsa dance routines and footwork! “Alfonso has a uniquely smooth, masculine and explosive style. I enjoy his classes very much, because it’s always filled with energy, humor, fun and challenging combinations. He puts together amazing Salsa dance routines and footwork, breaking down every move so that everyone, no matter what level of skill, can learn from it. I also like his attitude towards life: always positive.

    -Tiran Behrouz

  • Even those people born with two left feet can transform into a raging salsa dancing machine! “Alfonso is a very dedicated and hard worker. I love that he’s willing to try new things and push himself to the limit to get where he wants to be. A perfect example to model under and it doesn’t matter if you experience the amazing impact of his dancing through private or group lessons, workshops, events or his DVD’s… you’re feet will NEVER be the same!

    -Charlene Rose

  • Vancouver is so blessed to be called home to Alfonso and Bravo Dance Company. When I hear complains about the nightclub scene here, I laugh to myself, because I know for a fact they’ve never tried Bravo Salsa. Once you try it, you’ll never go back. You meet the most amazing, friendly people and we all enjoy going out dancing together. Bravo is like family, and we own the dancefloors of the Salsa scene. It’s also great for fitness and a fantastic way to become more confident. See you out there.

    -Farhan Umedaly

  • I am glad I took the opportunity to be under the instruction of a champion.

    -Ares Mercado

  • Salsa that is crisp and exciting. He pays more attention to the importance of ‘spotting’ and clean footwork than most. His mastery of this dance allows him the ability to coach the follower to achieve feminine, attractive and (his favorite word) ‘clean’ styling. Many teachers of salsa have never competed, Alfonso is a champion dancer AND teacher.
